Changing from the Aluminum grill to the cast iron grill was a wise and worthwhile step backward. It requires a food oil treatment with heat periodically after use, but allows you to refresh the appearance and continued use with out scratches that can't be removed. Yes, it is heavier but so worth the change and cost. Sometimes change is not worth the effort from the customer's view.

Our original griddle was getting scratched up and I don't like cooking on that non-stick surface with bad chemicals, so was looking for a good cast iron upgrade. This one seems to be an exact replica of the original, but made with cast iron. I wish it had a smoother cooking surface, but I might use a power sander to achieve that sometime. This was a very pleasant surprise. I expected something of lesser quality, but the item that was received was substantial in glass and in metal. It brewed coffee beautifully. I especially like seeing the coffee come up through the siphon. This is not something you would see in a typical aluminum version.
